Under the leadership of Kirk Ferentz, the football program at The Unversity of Iowa has firmly established itself as a leader in the Big Ten Conference and one of the most consistently successful programs nationally. In order for the UI to remain competitive, it needs to renew its commitment to the facilities used daily by its student-athletes. By doing so, the UI can not only remain competitive, but in many cases set a new standard, a standard that would also enhance its ability to recruit future Hawkeyes in addition to maximizing the potential of the student-athletes currently involved in the program.
At the very top of the master plan for continued success is a need to re-invent the Hayden Fry Football Complex by addressing changes, improvements, and upgrades to the Richard O. Jacobson Athletic Building and "The Bubble," Iowa's long-time indoor practice facility.
Phase 1 - Weather-proof Green Space ($20 million)
Phase 2 - Football Operations Center ($30 million)
The UI Athletics Department is 100 percent self-supporting and, as such, receives no state tax dollars. Therefore, the entire cost of this project will be funded with private philanthropic support from fans of the Hawkeyes and friends of the UI.
The final costs for the football facilities are still in the development phase. We anticipate the total cost to fund all of our football facility needs to be approximately $50 million.
This extraordinary commitment will position the football program at the UI as a national leader for many years to come. To reach this goal, we will need the continued support of all alumni, fans, and former student-athletes.
